Lorna Spenceley was the Liberal Democrats' parliamentary candidate for the North East Cambridgeshire constituency in May 2010. Married with two adult children, Lorna lives in Sutton, near Ely, in the North East Cambridgeshire constituency.

Lorna was born in 1958 and brought up in Jersey, in the Channel Islands. She read English at Selwyn College, Cambridge, and has an MBA from the Open University. Lorna currently works from home as an administrator, but has previously worked for a charity for children with special needs, and as a college marketing manager.

Lorna served as a councillor in her previous home constituency of Harlow, including several years as council leader, from 1991, and ceased to be a councillor in May 2010. She has also served on the Scrutiny Panel and Strategy & Finance Policy Review Group of the Local Government Association.

In her spare time, Lorna is returning to learning how to play the piano after a gap of over 30 years. She is a member of a local reading group, and of the UK Wolf Conservation Trust where she enjoys walking with wolves.

Lorna says: "There are many reasons to vote Liberal Democrat in North East Cambridgeshire, but I have three main priorities. Firstly, we need well-paid jobs for local people. I want to encourage green businesses and investment in local enterprise. Secondly, every child should have the best possible start in life. Our 'pupil premium' will provide an extra £2,500 to schools for each of the 1 million most disadvantaged children in the UK they take on. Thirdly, our constituency is poorly served by local infrastructure including public transport. I welcome Liberal Democrat proposals for a national infrastructure bank for major projects, and greater powers of regulation for local authorities over bus provision".
